Get out your calendars. Circle the date of June 13, 2009 and get ready to run or walk the RAP River Run 5K. It's a great event. It was considered one of the best new races in the Tampa Bay area in 2008. The course is beautiful, along the water and shady. Every finisher gets a medal and who doesn't like getting hardware. The post race party had great food, there was music, prizes and more. And most importantly, the race benefits Youth & Family Alternatives' RAP (Runaway Alternatives Project) House benefiting youth at risk ages 10-17.
This year, the RAP River Run will be bigger and better. The race is using the IPICO Chip Timing System so there will be quick and accurate results. The race course has also been USATF certified as a 5K distance.
The 2009 RAP River Run has gone green! All shirts for race participants will be 100% organic cotton. In addition, we are collecting used athletic shoes and are trying to break the world record for the most shoes collected. The shoes will be sent to organizations who recycle them to make playgrounds and help those in need. So DO NOT throw away your shoes. We've got collection bins throughout the area.
